Toyota RAV4 (2013 Fourth generation)

Toyota RAV4

5 Pros

  1. Like the new Toyota Corolla, the new RAV4 manages to look anything but boring
  2. Toyota have finally brought a fuel efficient Diesel model to the market and it is cheaper than the one in the excellent Mazda CX-5
  3. Decent boot for this class and enough room for 5 adults
  4. Capped priced servicing, a reasonable quality interior and this one is pretty good around corners as well
  5. Toyota reliability – it is by no accident that Toyota have sold nearly 200,000 RAV4’s over the last 19 years

5 Cons

  1. The petrol model is not as fuel efficient as others in the market such as the Skoda Yeti
  2. Badge value is not as high as the similarly priced Volkswagen Tiguan
  3. No rear view camera as standard across the range (many other compact SUV’s now offer this) [Edit: this has been fixed in the 2014 model]
  4. Some reports of a harsh ride and the base model is a little underpowered
  5. The diesel engine only has a towing capacity of 500kg. The normal average for this class is between 1,500 – 2,000kg. [Edit: The 2014 model has increased the towing capacity to 1,000kg]

Concluding personality type: Iron chef Japan: The original that still delivers
