Volkswagen Scirocco R (Third generation 2013)

Volkswagen Scirocco R exterior

5 Pros

  1. The Volkswagen Scirocco R is very fast, loves corners and is pretty fuel efficient
  2. 2 door design makes it a bit younger than other 4 door hot hatches (such as the Ford Focus ST)
  3. Fun exhaust sound
  4. Well built elegant interior (although the design is getting a bit dated – a new Volkswagen Golf on which the Scirocco is based is due soon)
  5. Volkswagen badge snobbery, but apparently Scirocco’s are made in Portugal not Germany so don’t get too excited

5 Cons

  1. Various reports are it is not quite as sharp as a Renault Megane RS265 and Volkswagen has had a history of poor reliability and high service costs
  2. The ride can be a little harsh and the DSG automatic gearbox (while very fast) has a reputation for being jerky in town
  3. The excellent German built Volkswagen Golf GTi is cheaper and the incredible Toyota 86 is even cheaper again
  4. Rear head room is tight and the rear seats can feel a little claustrophobic
  5. Small boot, no leather seats available and rear visibility is limited

Concluding personality type: Chanel No5: Probably the most elegant choice in a very competitive market
