Holden Volt

Holden Volt body

5 Pros

  1. The Holden Volt is a revolutionary petrol electric car developed in the US
  2. It has a range of up to ~80km when powered by just the batteries alone (which can be charged in 6 hours from a normal power point)
  3. The Volt’s key party trick is that it also has a petrol engine which can be used to recharge the batteries when they run out of juice – this means that full of petrol and electricity, the range is ~600km
  4. 8 airbags – so it’s safe
  5. Because of the electric motor, the Volt is nearly silent. To solve any safety issues Holden has implemented a Pedestrian Alert System – sounds very advanced, until you realise it is basically just a mini horn…

5 Cons

  1. It costs A$60k and yet amazingly Reuters have reported that General Motors (Holden’s US parent) lose US$49k on each one sold
  2. The Volt only has 4 seats to make room for the batteries
  3. The interior does not feel as high quality as other cheaper offerings from BMW, Audi and Mercedes
  4. The front spoiler is too low and constantly hits the ground
  5. Arguments you will have about power from petrol vs. power from coal (electricity)

Concluding personality type: Rich eco warriors: making the rest of us feel bad about ourselves since the 60’s
