Volkswagen Up!

Volkswagen Up! body

WOBUP – obviously German for WHASSUP…

5 Pros

  1. The terrific, fuel efficient Volkswagen Up! won World Car of the Year in 2012
  2. It is gender neutral and just about the cheapest European car you can buy
  3. The VW is very well equipped for the price and the options are not that expensive
  4. The boot is surprisingly large and rear seat room is not bad
  5. The VW will apply the brakes automatically if it detects that you will hit the car in front (an amazing feature on such a cheap car)

5 Cons

  1. Airport customs slow… (but good enough for town and it is ok around corners)
  2. Built in Slovakia, but this is the same factory that supplies the cars to Europe so it should be ok
  3. Only a four seater and some question marks around the ride and general ergonomics (such as no reach adjustable steering wheel)
  4. Historically high Volkswagen service costs (although VW has announced fixed price servicing on this model)
  5.  No automatic (unlike the Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2)

Concluding personality type: Ikea: European fashion and functionality at a cheap price – expect to see it everywhere
