Audi A1 1.4 TFSI S-tronic

Audi A1 body

Missed me

5 Pros

  1. Prestigious Audi badge. This is the key reason most people will buy the Belgium built A1 rather than the cheaper South African built VW Polo (on which the A1 is based)
  2. High quality, well appointed interior thankfully matches the nicely sculpted exterior. Not quite the Sharon Stone / Mensa combination, but close
  3. The incredibly fuel efficient 1.4L Turbo petrol engine is eager to please
  4. Fun to drive with a good turning circle, although the steering can be a bit lifeless
  5. The two rear seats are usable, just, thanks to clever grooves in the ceiling

5 Cons

  1. The high performance automatic gearbox is jerky at low speed – using this car in town is like trying to ice skate in sand – not what you would call a smooth experience
  2. The interior is not as cocoon like as you would normally expect in a luxury car and the mirrors are too small
  3. The boot is tiny, although the rear seats do fold flat
  4. The fuel saving system (which automatically switches off the engine at traffic lights) is poorly executed. Reports are that many owners are turning this function off
  5. The firm suspension can result in quite an uncomfortable ride over bumps

Concluding personality type: Justin Timberlake: Cool, funky and almost masculine
