Volkswagen Golf R (2013 Mk6)

Volkswagen Golf R

5 Pros

  1. The primary appeal of the Golf R is its impressive straight line speed
  2. Pretty good around corners as well like most of the Golf range (and this model comes with 4 wheel drive)
  3. 5 door practicality and a nice interior
  4. 5 out of 5 star safety and that all important badge value
  5. Easy enough to live with day to day (although the ride can be a little harsh)

5 Cons

  1. Hard to justify the extra $10k over the excellent Volskwagen Golf GTi and Ford Focus ST
  2. New Golf model is due soon and this one doesn’t sound as good as the old Golf R32
  3. Not the most efficient in the class and others hot hatches are sharper (such as the Renault Megane RS265)
  4. The boot space is small (and much smaller than the normal Golf) and concerns remain over ongoing Volkswagen reliability issues
  5. Conservative styling. The lighter, two door Volskwagen Scirocco R is the same price but looks better (and is just as good, if not better around corners)

Concluding personality type: Boeing 787 Dreamilner: More problems than I expected
