Opel Astra OPC (2013 J)

Opel Astra OPC

5 Pros

  1. Incredible performance around corners. The Opel Astra OPC is pretty much on par with the leading two door coupe/hot hatches the Volkswagen Scirocco R and Renault Megane RS265, but about $5k cheaper
  2. Notably quick in a straight line (although a Subaru WRX is faster)
  3. Decent boot space, quite good rear seat room and a 5 out of 5 star safety rating
  4. A nice comfortable ride in comfort mode…
  5. Terrific seats and sat nav as standard

5 Cons

  1. The excellent Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTi are cheaper
  2. Opel remains an unproven brand in Australia
  3. Some turbo lag and nervousness under acceleration probably take the edge off the performance compared to the Renault RS265
  4. Fuel consumption is the same as the competitors, but this does not mean it is great (for example the BMW 535d is more fuel efficient and faster in a straight line)
  5. Probably not as premium an interior as the Volkswagen Scirocco R

Concluding personality type: Marlon Brando: This one is definitely a contender

UPDATE: Opel as a brand has now left Australia…
