1. Built in South Africa. Previous Volkswagen’s built here had a very poor reliability record and in Australia VW is known for high service costs
2. The diesel is slow and the 1.4L engine is significantly underpowered
3. Requires premium unleaded
4. The base model is a bit stingy on equipment with no cruise control and antiquated drum brakes on the rear
5. The automatic DSG gearbox can be a quite jerky to use in town
