5 Pros
- Terrific interior. The Volkswagen Golf sets a new standard for this class
- The new engines see the Golf set some amazing records for fuel efficiency in this class (or any class really)
- Comfortable to drive and very good around corners (although maybe not as good as the Ford Focus)
- Lots of interior space and a very decent boot
- 5 out of 5 star safety and there are some new very clever new systems that will help you avoid accidents by automatically braking (similar to the Volkswagen Up!)
5 Cons
- The styling is a bit boring, especially compared to the Hyundai i30 or the new Mercedes Benz A-Class
- Ongoing Volkswagen reliability concerns
- Servicing will likely remain expensive (VW in Australia does not have the best reputation for this, although they have introduced fixed priced servicing on the cheapest VW the Up!)
- Some of the engines have been described as “non-sporty”
- The DSG gearbox can be a bit jerky
Concluding personality type: Walt Disney: Most awarded to date and thankfully the legend lives on
