5 Pros
- Terrific driving machine. The Renault Megane RS is light, agile, quick and easy to use. Driving the Renault is like using lubricant, easy to go fast
- A hot hatch – so it’s going to be pretty cheap and usable day to day
- The brand. While Renault may not be as desirable as some other German names the Megane still has a certain calm sophistication when compared to many of its hyperactive Japanese competitors
- It won Drive Best Performance Car under A$40k for 2 years running (although I note that these awards often seem limited by the small range of cars available to the judges)
- 700 have been sold in Australia so it is still pretty exclusive
5 Cons
- Front wheel drive which is always a compromise in sport cars. Think of it like breaststroke, efficient and pretty quick, but unlikely to be your number one choice when someone shouts shark
- Relatively specific appeal, so it might depreciate quickly
- Its really tuned for the track, so it’s a bit harsh to drive on road
- Renault has just about sold out of this edition, however new RS 265 will likely be just as good with a little more power
- Average stereo
Concluding personality type: Matt Damon: Quietly understated day to day, but always delivers class leading performances when it counts
By far the best response to the question “do you snowbaord or ski?”
